Brief History of Venice

The origin of Venice, Italy, is not well known. It is thought that the city was formed by refugees who have tired of the persecution of the barbarians, tried to escape, leaving their land and walk towards freedom for the nearest islands, considered uninhabitable by many at the time.
Venice used its channels to become a powerful city-wide business coming to dominate a large part of the Mediterranean, Adriatic and hundreds of vital trade routes of the time. The city of Venice prospered for centuries, becoming an arts center with its many galleries and museums throughout the city.

Although some degradation of the city, Venice is still one of the most beautiful in the world. Tourism in Venice is great and is what makes the city move. Everything revolves around tourists, sales of stays, restaurants. Mark’s Basilica, is a tourist destination not to be missed. She has a golden altar with 40 square meters and thousands of jewelry. It also has many other treasures inside.

The gondola is the main mode of transport on the canals of Venice. Despite the new forms of transportation today, they can not supplant the traditional songs of the gondoliers that speak of true love or the magnificent history of Venice itself. Tourists do not forgo a romantic gondola ride and beautiful.

Festa di San Silvestro, Fireworks, capodanno and New Year celebrations

Celebrate “La Festa di San Silvestro” (the New Year to December 31) and “Il Capodanno” (New Year on January 1) Venetian style, enjoying many fantastic Italian meals at a local restaurant, drinking prosecco and joining the crowd in St Mark’s Square, where the bell-tower of St. Mark announces the end of the year and the beginning of a new year. The celebration continues with fireworks that give your show brightness and color. The “Piazza San Marco” have a great program and New Year’s Eve party, with music and the famous toast “bellini Brindisi” in addition to a huge kiss, in group, at midnight. The Kiss in group also will be held in the Square “Piazza Ferretto”.

There are parties in the city until dawn, so you can watch the sunrise on the first day of the year. Do not forget to wear red New Year underwear, as the Italians say that brings luck.

A bit all over the city of Venice, there are great New Year’s dinner organized by the restaurants, starting around 21:00h and last until midnight. Although expensive, they are very good, with good food and great wine. Make sure to book early.

Throughout the city there are special events for the passage of years, from parties in discos, cabaret shows the high-class cruises along the channel with exclusive dinner and even organized street parties in local neighborhoods. Wherever you go you will find the breakdown of traditional dishes, which is thrown from the balconies which contributes to the fun and spontaneity of the festivities of New Year’s Eve.

The New Year Opera and Theatre in Venice

The New Year’s Eve in Venice is also the height of the opera season and the stunning  ”La Fenice” theater productions, for art lovers. The  New Year’s concert ”Concerto di Capodanno” in the Theatre “La Fenice” takes place on 30 and 31 December and 1 January. After 31 days of the concert, there’s a New Year celebration from 20:00 with a welcome drink, dinner and midnight toast. There is also a concert of Opera New Year, the Great “Scuola del Carmine” at 19:30 pm

At year-end in Venice, the museums, churches and other attractions remain open throughout most of the time.

You can visit the lovely island of Lido, the beautiful gardens of the Locanda Cipriani, or go see the famous Murano glass museums, tours always popular and enjoyable.

On New Year’s Day, many swimmers give a dip in the waters of the island of Lido. Good to end the hangover!
