Festa di San Silvestro, Fireworks, capodanno and New Year celebrations
Celebrate “La Festa di San Silvestro” (the New Year to December 31) and “Il Capodanno” (New Year on January 1) Venetian style, enjoying many fantastic Italian meals at a local restaurant, drinking prosecco and joining the crowd in St Mark’s Square, where the bell-tower of St. Mark announces the end of the year and the beginning of a new year. The Kiss in group also will be held in the Square “Piazza Ferretto”.
There are parties in the city until dawn, so you can watch the sunrise on the first day of the year. Do not forget to wear red New Year underwear, as the Italians say that brings luck.
A bit all over the city of Venice, there are great New Year’s dinner organized by the restaurants, starting around 21:00h and last until midnight. Although expensive, they are very good, with good food and great wine. Make sure to book early.
Throughout the city there are special events for the passage of years, from parties in discos, cabaret shows the high-class cruises along the channel with exclusive dinner and even organized street parties in local neighborhoods. The New Year Opera and Theatre in Venice
The New Year’s Eve in Venice is also the height of the opera season and the stunning ”La Fenice” theater productions, for art lovers. The New Year’s concert ”Concerto di Capodanno” in the Theatre “La Fenice” takes place on 30 and 31 December and 1 January. After 31 days of the concert, there’s a New Year celebration from 20:00 with a welcome drink, dinner and midnight toast. There is also a concert of Opera New Year, the Great “Scuola del Carmine” at 19:30 pm
At year-end in Venice, the museums, churches and other attractions remain open throughout most of the time.
You can visit the lovely island of Lido, the beautiful gardens of the Locanda Cipriani, or go see the famous Murano glass museums, tours always popular and enjoyable.
